7 Must-Have Tips for Preparing Your Baby for a Newborn Photography Session in South Florida

Your baby's first photo session is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As a trusted newborn photographer in South Florida, I often get asked, “How can I prepare my baby for their session?” Whether you’re from Coral Springs, Parkland, Deerfield Beach, or Boca Raton, following a few key tips can make your newborn’s photo session smooth, successful, and stress-free.
At Jennifer Ubinas Photography, we’ve photographed hundreds of babies in Broward County, and we’ve compiled our best secrets to help you prepare.
1. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session
Sleepy babies photograph best. Try giving your baby a bath or some gentle tummy time about an hour before your session to help them burn off energy. If you’re local to Coconut Creek, Sunrise, or Hollywood, Florida, plan your drive to the studio around nap time to encourage sleep on arrival.
2. Feed Right Before the Session
A full tummy = a happy, sleepy baby. Feed your baby right before you leave for your session (or upon arrival if that's easier). This is one of the most crucial tips we give to all our newborn photography clients in South Florida.
3. Dress Baby in Easy-to-Remove Clothing
Onesies that zip or button down the front are best—no over-the-head outfits, please! This ensures we can undress your little one without disturbing them. For newborn sessions in Parkland, Plantation, or Davie, we also recommend bringing a neutral swaddle or blanket.
4. Bring a Pacifier (Even If Baby Doesn’t Use One)
Even if your baby typically doesn’t use a pacifier, they may find comfort in it during posing. If you’re one of our many first-time parents from Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, or Lighthouse Point, know that even a few seconds of soothing can make all the difference in getting that perfect shot.
5. Trust the Photographer (That’s Me!)
We specialize in newborn photography in Coral Springs Florida, baby photography in Deerfield Beach, and maternity photography in South Florida—and we’ve been trained in newborn safety and posing. Your baby is in the best hands, and our studio is fully sanitized and equipped to make your family feel at home.
6. Bring Extra Essentials
Bring extra diapers, wipes, and a backup outfit for yourself. Babies can be unpredictable, and it’s always better to be prepared. If you’re visiting from Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, or Coconut Creek, pack for a relaxed, 2–3 hour session.
7. Book Early!
Booking early ensures you get a session within the ideal newborn window (5–14 days old). Our newborn photography sessions in Broward County fill quickly—especially during holiday and seasonal promotions.
