The Ultimate Newborn Checklist for South Florida Moms (from a Photographer Who Gets It)
Bringing home a newborn is exciting, emotional, and — let’s be honest — a little overwhelming. Between sleepless nights and sweet baby snuggles, South Florida moms deserve all the help they can get. That’s why I created the ultimate newborn checklist tailored to families right here in Broward County, from Deerfield Beach to Coral Springs, Boca Raton, and beyond.

As a professional newborn photographer in South Florida, I’ve worked with hundreds of local moms, and I know exactly what helps your first weeks go more smoothly — and how to make sure those priceless first days are captured forever.
🍼 1. Diapering Essentials for Florida’s Heat
Florida’s warm and humid climate means comfort is key.
Newborn-size diapers (stock both disposable + cloth if you’re experimenting)
Sensitive baby wipes (fragrance-free)
Portable changing pad for outings to Fort Lauderdale parks or Delray Beach brunch spots
Diaper cream (Florida humidity can irritate sensitive skin)
Lightweight diaper bag – bonus if it’s waterproof for beach days!
✅ Local tip: Keep extras in the car. Between baby photo sessions and pediatrician visits in Pompano Beach, you’ll be glad you did.
👕 2. Baby Clothing That’s South Florida Approved
Babies don’t need a full wardrobe yet — just breathable, easy-to-layer items:
Cotton onesies (short and long sleeve)
Zipper sleepers (skip the buttons for late-night changes!)
Swaddle blankets – muslin is best for the heat
A soft baby hat – especially for those early newborn photos
Baby mittens to prevent scratching
💡 Photographer tip: Stick to neutral, solid colors — they photograph beautifully. I always recommend soft pastels, creams, and muted earth tones for my studio newborn photography sessions in Deerfield Beach.
🛏️ 3. Sleep Setup for a Peaceful Home
Helping your newborn sleep is everything, especially in South Florida where days can be long and hot.
Bassinet or bedside sleeper
White noise machine (great for blocking out noisy Florida storms)
Lightweight swaddles and wearable blankets
Room thermometer – keep nursery between 68-72°F
Blackout curtains (great for Coral Springs homes with lots of natural light)
Pro tip: A rested baby is a happy baby in photos. The better the nap, the smoother your session goes. I always plan newborn sessions around your baby’s best nap window.
🍼 4. Feeding Tools (Whether Breast or Bottle)
Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, or bottle-feeding, here’s what helps:
Nursing pillow (also doubles for baby posing in lifestyle photography)
Burp cloths (have a stash in every room)
Bottles (4oz size to start)
Bottle warmer
Breast pump and storage bags
Nursing bras and nipple balm
📸 Session tip: Feed baby right before your photo session at my Deerfield Beach studio. A full belly makes for peaceful, sleepy newborn photos.
🧼 5. Baby Bath & Body Care (Perfect for Sunny Florida Skin)
Newborn skin is extra sensitive — especially in Florida’s unique climate.
Baby bathtub or sink insert
Gentle body wash and shampoo (fragrance-free)
Soft baby towels and washcloths
Coconut oil or baby lotion
Nail file or newborn clippers
🌴 Bonus: If you’re doing a newborn and motherhood session outdoors in Parkland or Coconut Creek, use a natural, baby-safe sunscreen after 6 weeks (ask your pediatrician!).
📷 6. Don’t Forget… Booking Your Newborn Photographer Early!
This might be the most important one (and not just because I’m a photographer 😉). Here’s why:
The best time to photograph your newborn is between 5–14 days after birth
My schedule for newborn sessions in South Florida books up quickly — especially in Coral Springs, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale
I offer timeless, neutral, couture-inspired studio photography — all you need to bring is your baby
✨ Your baby changes so fast. Make sure those tiny features, sleepy smiles, and new parent love are captured forever.
